Hey there, this is Doctor Hartung from Family Chiropractic Center here in Robinson Township, Pennsylvania. Thanks for tuning in today.

You know, I’ve been practicing chiropractic for years now, and I still hear the same questions over and over. What do chiropractors actually do? Are you just back crackers? Can you really help with anything besides back pain? So today, I want to clear up some of the biggest myths about chiropractic care and give you the real story.

Let’s start with the most common one. A lot of people think chiropractors only treat back pain. And sure, we see plenty of that. But here’s the thing… your spine isn’t just about your back. Your nervous system runs through your spinal column, and when your spine isn’t moving right or joints are restricted, it can affect a whole lot more than just that one spot. We help people with neck pain, headaches, shoulder problems, even issues with their hips and knees. I’ve worked with patients who came in for sciatica and others dealing with tension headaches that were actually coming from their neck. The body is all connected, and that’s what we focus on.

Now, another myth I hear all the time… people think that once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to keep going forever. Let me break this down for you. When you first come in with a problem, yeah, you might need several visits close together to get things moving in the right direction. That’s the correction phase. But once you’re feeling better, it’s really up to you. Some people choose to come in for maintenance care because they like staying ahead of problems. Others come in only when something flares up. There’s no trap door here. We work with you based on your goals and what makes sense for your life.

Here’s another big one. Some folks think adjustments are dangerous or that we’re going to hurt them. I get it. If you’ve never been adjusted before, the idea of someone moving your spine can sound scary. But chiropractic adjustments are actually one of the safest treatments out there for musculoskeletal problems. That popping sound? It’s just gas bubbles releasing from the joint. It’s not bones grinding or anything breaking. Most people feel relief right away, and serious complications are extremely rare. We’re trained extensively in anatomy and biomechanics. We know exactly what we’re doing.

So what do we actually do? We assess how your spine and joints are moving. We look for areas of restriction or misalignment. Then we use our hands or specific techniques to restore proper motion and alignment. This helps reduce pain, improve function, and lets your body heal the way it’s designed to. It’s not magic. It’s biomechanics and neurology working together.

Here’s my advice. If you’re dealing with pain or stiffness that’s affecting your daily life, don’t just push through it. Come get evaluated. Let us figure out what’s actually going on. You deserve to feel good and move well.
