Hey there, and welcome back to the Family Chiropractic Center podcast. I’m Doctor Hartung, and I’m so glad you’re here with me today. You know, I’ve been practicing here in Robinson Township for years now, and I still hear the same questions and misconceptions about what chiropractors actually do. So today, I thought we’d clear the air and talk about what really happens in a chiropractic office. Let’s debunk some of these myths together.

Alright, so myth number one, and this is a big one. People think all we do is crack backs. Now, I get it. That’s what you see in the videos online, right? Someone gets adjusted, there’s that popping sound, and boom, that’s chiropractic. But here’s the thing. That adjustment is just one tool in our toolkit. When you come into our office, we’re looking at your whole musculoskeletal system. We’re checking your posture, how you move, where you’re holding tension. We might do soft tissue work, recommend specific exercises, talk about ergonomics at your job or at home. The goal isn’t just to pop your spine. The goal is to help your body function better and get you out of pain.

And speaking of that popping sound, let me explain what’s actually happening there because a lot of folks think we’re cracking bones. We’re not. That sound is just gas bubbles releasing from the joint. Think of it like when you crack your knuckles. Same thing. What we’re really doing is restoring normal motion to joints that aren’t moving the way they should. When a joint gets stuck or restricted, it can cause pain, muscle tension, and even affect your nerves. A chiropractic adjustment helps get that joint moving properly again.

Now, here’s another myth I hear all the time. Once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to go forever. Listen, I’m not in the business of keeping you dependent on me. I want you to feel great and live your life. Yes, some people choose to come in for regular maintenance care because it helps them feel their best, kind of like going to the gym or getting your car serviced. But if you come in with acute low back pain or a stiff neck, we’re going to work together to get you feeling better, and then you’re good to go. You’re in control of your care, always.

Here’s what I want you to know. Chiropractic care is safe, it’s effective, and it’s backed by research for things like back pain, neck pain, and headaches. We work within a specific scope of practice, and if I ever think you need something beyond what I can offer, I’ll refer you out. That’s what good doctors do.

So what can you do today? Pay attention to your body. Notice if you’re sitting with rounded shoulders or if one side of your neck feels tighter than the other. Little changes, like taking breaks to stand and stretch, can make a real difference.

And if you’re dealing with persistent pain or stiffness, come see us at Family Chiropractic Center here in Robinson Township. We’ll sit down, figure out what’s going on, and come up with a plan that works for you.

Thanks so much for listening today. I’m Doctor Hartung, and we’re here to help. Take care, and we’ll talk soon.
